'Most of my textiles come from imagery in my sketchbooks - I try to draw or paint every day. I use my sketchbooks as journals, a mixture of writing and loose semi-automatic drawings, doodles and expressive watercolours. I am often asked if I find my textile practice to be therapeutic but I actually find this element of my practice far more cathartic than any other.

When something grabs me and I feel it could be interesting to translate the drawing into a textile, I do a more resolved-feeling watercolour: this work being the starting point for ‘Your Mum Eats Like A Camel’, a work that recalls a traumatic experience from my childhood.' -Anya Paintsil
